| COLEOPTERA, Tenebrionidae --  <Images> & <Juveniles>     Most tenebrionids, or "darkling
  beetles," are scavengers, but some feed on grain or grain products, and
  a few are possibly predaceous.  Those
  reported as predators were found in association with bark and wood borers
  (Clausen 1940/1962).  Tenebrionids are
  common in arid areas of the American west, apparently occupying the niche
  that is commonly inhabited by Carabidae in greener areas.  Tenebrionidae are commonly found in animal
  dung, which through their movements, may aid to decompose (see section on
